The 3rd Northern Link Youth Ambassadors Programme has officially commenced, with 60 young people selected to join the new cohort of Youth Ambassadors. As a key transport backbone of the Northern Metropolis, the Northern Link plays a vital role in connecting communities and driving regional development.
Jointly organised by MTR Corporation and Yuen Long Town Hall, the programme aims to nurture young people who are passionate about community development. This year, the programme has expanded beyond Yuen Long to Tuen Mun and the North District, enabling the Youth Ambassadors to reach out to more communities and schools. Through roving talks and interactive game booths, they will introduce students and members of the public to the latest Northern Link project developments and railway knowledge, serving as an important bridge between the project and the community.
In addition, the Youth Ambassadors will participate in a series of training workshops and community engagement activities to strengthen their communication, teamwork and leadership skills, while passing on their passion for railway development and community service to future cohorts.
The kick-off ceremony was officiated by representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Yuen Long District Office, and the Rural Committee. It was also attended by community leaders, school principals, parents and residents from Yuen Long, who gathered to witness the official launch of the Youth Ambassador Programme.

Four Youth Ambassador representatives participated in a fireside chat session, sharing their experiences, memorable moments and personal growth through the programme.

Before the official launch of the programme, the Yuen Long Town Hall and the Northern Link project team organised training workshops to equip the Youth Ambassadors with the knowledge and skills required for the year ahead. During the workshops, ambassadors learned about the Northern Link project through presentations and interactive discussions, deepening their understanding of both the project and MTR's railway development.

During the training workshop, the ambassadors were divided into different teams, each with its own unique team name. Over the coming year, the teams will participate in training and community activities together, learning and serving the community side by side.
To further enhance the Youth Ambassadors’ understanding of MTR’s application of innovative technologies, the project team specially arranged an Innovation Technology Workshop. Through exchanges with engineers and an interactive Building Information Modelling (BIM) game, the ambassadors gained insights into how innovative technologies are applied in railway projects. During the programme, they also visited the project’s Innovation Hub to learn about the application of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in new railway projects, and to better understand how technology can enhance project planning, construction efficiency and safety performance.

Through an interactive BIM (Building Information Modelling) game, ambassadors learned how digital models are used for design simulation, issue detection and multidisciplinary coordination.

Through their visit to the Innovation Hub, ambassadors learned about the application and development of artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies in new railway projects.
