Northern link to connect Lok Ma Chau Spur line with Tuen Ma line

The link between mainland China and Hong Kong was too much needed to continue the flow of connectivity and for that purpose, the Lok Ma Chau Spur line was built and now it is getting connected with the Tuen Ma line through Kwu Tung Station.

Before the Lok Ma Chau Spur line started to build the connection between mainland China and Hong Kong, there was a congested station Lo Wu which was the main station of the territory and people were dependent on that station for reaching their destinations. After the Lok Ma Chau station was built, the congestion relaxed from Lo Wu station and people started to use Lok Ma Chau station. It was an amazing decision that proved to be beneficial for the denizens of both Hong Kong and mainland China.

This rail line runs to Lok Ma Chau Station, the station where immigration and custom benefits are available for passengers. It is an advanced station that helps passengers with different issues. The terminus is linked to the Futian Checkpoint station which was previously named Huanggang station. It is connected by a bridge through the Shenzhen River. 

On 14 June 2002, Hong Kong’s Special Administrative Region Government endorsed the corporation's construction of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line. The construction of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line began in January 2003 and was completed in 2007.

Lok Ma Chau Spur line - A well-planned project

Besides the amazing location choice that can be reached effortlessly, the Lok Ma Chau Spur line was planned after studying the environment and the surrounding geographical conditions. Moreover, the team also had to estimate the cost and the budget to get this project completed.  Like any other project, this railway project also had its unique challenges and difficulties. Besides the geographical and natural environmental challenges, there were also budget, workforce-related challenges, etc. 

Not only that but both types of alignments had to be discussed in detail. Both above ground and underground rail alignment have their own pros and cons and that's why both sides had to be discussed with stakeholders.

Benefits of Lok Ma Chau Spur line

The transportation connectivity of the city improved a lot with the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line. 

Previously, people had to encounter road traffic to reach mainland China from Hong Kong and vice versa. But now, they can get on the train and reach their destinations within a few minutes.

Because of this rail line, the infrastructure of the connecting areas got developed and these circumstances have opened the door to endless opportunities for people living in those territories.

This rail line project has improved the lifestyles of people living in those territories and has improved the connectivity and infrastructure. 

Kwu Tung Station - the station of the East Rail line that connects Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Tuen Ma line

Kwu Tung is going to be the future transportation hub of the Northern link and the construction of the station will take less time as some provisions for this future station have already been made during the construction of famous 

Lok Ma Chau Spur line. This rail station will support the development of the surrounding areas and also will help people to connect easily. As some of the initial structures have already been made, it will minimize the impact of railway construction on the environment. 

Not only that, but this Station will connect the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line of the East Rail Line and Tuen Ma Line allowing people of these two different lines to reach their destinations without any on-road hustles.

The MTR group, with the most experienced and skilled team is working on the construction and design of the station to execute this project as early as possible.
