Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line, under the Northern Link project, is located between Sheung Shui and Lok Ma Chau stations. Currently, transformation work is underway on the platform level at Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line.

During the construction of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, multiple columns were originally erected inside the reserved tunnel box structure, located approximately 20 metres underground. These columns served to stabilise the structure and counteract the groundwater buoyancy force. As the overall construction of the new station structure progressed, the project team removed 19 columns, weighing a total of approximately 60 tons, to vacate space for platform transformation work. The team adopted an innovative approach by demolishing each column in three sections. After removal, the columns were upcycled and reused as part of the platform floor, and their substantial weight continues to contribute to maintaining the stability of the tunnel box structure.
The platform transformation is being carried out between the two operational tunnels of the East Rail Line, so the project team must proceed with extreme caution to ensure the safety of East Rail Line services and meet the target completion date of 2027 for the project to be put into service.
