New Milestone in E&M Works at Kwu Tung Station

30-03-2026

Following the successful topping-out in November last year, Kwu Tung Station* on the East Rail Line is now progressing at full speed with E&M works. All 12 escalators within the station were smoothly installed in March this year, linking the future ground, concourse and platform levels. This marks another key step towards the project’s target completion and commissioning in 2027.

Each escalator truss was delivered in five segments, carefully lowered from ground level by tower crane during a precise lifting operation.

The escalator installation process presented considerable challenges. Due to limited space at construction site, each escalator truss, with individual sections weighing up to 7 tonnes, had to be lifted and installed in segments. The components were hoisted one by one from ground level and lowered vertically from above to the various station levels, where they were accurately assembled at designated locations. Through careful planning and effective teamwork, the project team ensured that every step was carried out with precision, while maintaining a high level of construction safety throughout the process.

The truss segments were sequentially transported to different station levels and assembled in position within the designated escalator shafts.

All 12 escalators at Kwu Tung Station have been successfully installed.
